For the August Mondays, I’ll be sharing selections from my summer essay workshop syllabuses along with my notes on the readings. Next up: reported essays. We discussed how to integrate research into our narratives so that it flows naturally, how to organize and contact our sources, and how voice helps communicate factual information in a way that doesn’t burden the reader.

Summer Essay Workshops in August: cultural criticism (TOMORROW). These will be presentations followed by discussions. Each has three essays to read—no food included, a mix of old and new. Choose day or evening sessions. We’re really having fun in these talking about our questions, concerns, and processes for approaching essay.
