For the first time in a long time, I spent the last month fully in San Juan—specifically, Viejo San Juan. That this coincided with the seemingly never-ending cycle of Spring Breakers made the significance of local spaces both more stark and more necessary.

Because I trust you, dear readers, I’m going to give you a full annotated rundown of where I and our neighbors actually hang out. When you’re in town, please enjoy my places and spaces. I’m giving you the specifics for when they’re ideal: brunch, an afternoon nosh, a dinner, morning coffee.

The next edition of Newsletter Workshop 2.0 will be on Tuesday, May 5, at 11 a.m. EST. The Self-Edit Workshop, its follow-up companion, will be on Tuesday, May 12, at 11 a.m. EST. The brand-new Everything You’ve Wanted to Know About Selling a Book will be on Tuesday May 19 at 11 a.m. EST. The next Food Essay sessions will take place each Tuesday in June at 11 a.m. EST.

A normal Monthly Menu will return in May, when I’ll be going through all of my book tour eating and drinking.
