Before we get into all the movies and television I watched in August, plus the links to the stories I found most interesting—a lot of important work on climate change, the AI bubble, and various myths controlling our world—I need to tell you about a few upcoming events that are extremely exciting and that I hope to see folks attending. In this month’s roundup, I’m also adding a “viewing” section for art.
Events
I’ll be at the Baltimore Book Festival in conversation with Miyoko Schinner, the true non-dairy queen, around the publication of her new cookbook The Vegan Creamery. September 13, 11 a.m.

On September 25, I’ll be at Seven Acre Dairy in Paoli, Wisconsin, for a dinner that I’ll be curating (some of my recipes will likely be on offer) using local produce, all around themes present in No Meat Required. It is part of their Women and Food Dinner Series.

And to round out this wild month, I’ll be in conversation with Soleil Ho at Roux Portland on October 11, talking about the world of independent publishing. Ho has crowd-funded a worker-owned publication, Coyote Media Collective; I’m about to launch a food magazine called TOMATO TOMATO: We will have a lot to discuss.

Workshops & More
The Self-Edit Workshop is on Tuesday, September 16, at 11 a.m. EST. You can book an editorial consultation, with availability starting in October.
