It's such an understatement and a disservice to what's apparent: insulting, a reinforcement of class, and a total disconnect to the food that curbs hunger are understatement. As always, I very much appreciate your perspectives, equally eloquent and wry.

"So who counts in food? Do there need to be tweezers involved? Are more people likely to have Tyson chicken in their freezer or eat at Noma (the most rhetorical question of them all)?" Nothing rhetorical here AT ALL: just routinely, intentionally ignored by "media." The ubiquity of chicken, in particular, is particularly egregious to me because of our absolute refusal to acknowledge the enormous and gruesome costs of it.

Yes, rhetorical because it’s so clear what the answer is! I find the chicken ubiquity wildly egregious, too.

The response also reads exactly the same as the media response to Bon Appetit back in 2020. We were promised a reckoning and restructuring of abusive systems, and for a hot minute it seemed like it was coming, and yet, once a few sheep were sacrificed everything snapped back into place.

Exactly—a bit of outrage theater before it’s all back to the status quo.
