Thanks Alicia for making the transcripts available along with the audio. Although you're both wonderful to listen to, it's usually easier for me to fit reading into my schedule than it is to set aside the time to listen. And as always, this was a terrific, thought-provoking exchange!
I gave you and Julia snaps probably every other minute during this conversation.
Thank you for all the layers of this conversation - the anti-blackness and "healthy"/diet connection, the veganism and farming connection, bringing in Tunde (who is one of my absolute favorite people in the food world right now), etc.
I think everyone should read/listen to this exchange, because of it's honesty and vulnerability and because you are two largely known "white women" (you being mixed race - I hear you as a mixed race woman myself) tackling bits that need to be discussed in a way that I think in my head all the time, but don't see regularly "on paper."
I absolutely loved this interview. And very much related to your pizza comment. I am about 99% vegan, but did I have a piece of the cheese pizza that was ordered by the group at 4 am at a very joyous event in NYC 4 years ago? Absolutely.
This interview was just such a wonderful read. The mutual admiration between you and Julia Turshen made this such a pleasure, while also giving me new things to educate myself on, and new cookbooks to purchase! Thank you Alicia for always providing excellently-written ideas and thoughts for me to chew on.
Late to the party but I loved this so much! Thank you for an interview that was both delightful to listen to and full of things that really resonated with me.
