Flâneuse is a fantastic book! I went on a similar reading rabbit hole a few years ago, and also read Edith Wharton’s In Morocco, which I found mostly interesting for the time that it was written/when she was traveling solo, as a woman! Another book I really enjoyed somewhat tangential to this topic is Rebecca Solnit’s A Field Guide to Getting Lost (lost, in both geographic and spiritual senses). I love her writing because it’s geographic while also literary and personal!
OMG, you got fresh pigeon peas, I have only seen them frozen here in the US. You must try this recipe, called kachori from the western Indian state of Gujarat. Here's the one that comes closest to the one I've had
This was so great, Alicia! The only reference with which I am really familiar is Paris Review (and the Snapshot newsletter) - you have given me much to do/read/listen! lol
