Thanks for this; as a reader and newspaper subscriber I am probably that crank everyone rolls their eyes at in the comment section, but I think it matters to say "This chef profile is tone deaf, I want a weekly update on how many waitstaff were threatened by antimaskers," etc. We have to keep up the pressure to see better, smarter stories, and to be vocal about garbage masquerading as gourmet.

I also wish progressives and leftists had a better PR game, and could distinguish what being antifascist really means, so that the "liberals" would have to work much harder to justify their existence-- and keep their bougie bs in the news. NK Jemisin had a tremendous twitter thread about political storytelling right after the election-- your essay here hits a lot of those same important notes.
